Rally Detail
South Dakota’s four Missouri River dams: Oahe, Big Bend, Ft. Randall, and Gavins Point. Lake “Oahe”, from the Lakota meaning “a foundation”, has been chosen as the foundation of the 2008 South Dakota Big Dam H.O.G. Rally. Choose your ride from our list of recommended Big Dam Rides. Cross one, two, three, or all four of South Dakota’s big dams. Ride alone, with your friends, or with one of our local dam guides. South Dakota’s four dam reservoirs total over 400 miles in length, and cover more than one half million dam acres, surrounded by endless bluffs and winding roads.
At the rally:
- You will have the opportunity to ride all or part of the Totally Ultimate Big Dam H.O.G. Ride, crossing all 4 Missouri River dams in South Dakota, and weaving around all 4 dam reservoirs.
- You will experience the dam scenery, and ride as little or as much as you want on guided or un-guided dam rides.
- For those of you who ride for the ABCs of Touring, we can get you a dam “Z”: Ziebach County is just up the road and is one of only 3 "Z" counties in the entire U.S of ABCs.
- Experience the Big Dam Powerhouse Tour, where you can learn our dam history.
In the area:
- Tour South Dakota’s beautiful Capitol Complex, with its flaming fountain, its memorials to America’s wars, as well as the Fighting Stallions memorial.
- Visit significant local historical sites, including the grave site of Chief Sitting Bull, Sacajawea's burial site, as well as other significant Lewis and Clark historical sites.
- Enjoy our memorable dam sunrises and sunsets, along endless river bluffs.
- A full scale replica of the Tyrannosaurus “Sue” will be back home in Faith, South Dakota this summer.
- Enjoy all the dam hospitality people have come to expect from South Dakota Harley riders.
